Input devices are the parts that let you enter and manipulate information on a computer. These devices range from the standard keyboard and mouse, to scanners, microphones, joysticks, and light pens.
Different Kinds of Input Devices
- Keyboard Programs and data are entered into the computer through keyboard which is attached to a computer. It contains alphabets, digits, special characters, function keys.
- Mouse Mouse is a pointing device which is used to move the cursor position on monitor screen. The mouse can also be used to draw sketch , diagrams etc .on the monitor screen. It contains three buttons.
- Joystick A joystick is a pointing device.It is used to move the cursor position on the monitor screen and also used for playing games.
- Scanner A scanner is a hardware device, used to scan text or images into the computer.
- Web Cameras A web camera allows a computer to accept input just focusing on an object.The camera is focused on an object to take a picture of the object.
- TrackBall A trackball is a pointing Device and contains a ball which can rotate in any direction.
- Light pen A light pen is a pointing device. It is used to select a displayed menu option on the monitor. It is photosensitive pen like device. The user indicates his choices by touching light pen against a desired description of the menu.
- Bar Code reader Bar code readers are special devices used to read the bar coded data
- MICR (Magnetic ink character reorganization) MICR detects the special encoded characters on bank cheques and deposit slips. After detecting the encoded characters, the MICR converts them into digital data for the computer.
