2. In a class of 60, where boys are twice that of girls, Kabita ranked seventeenth from the top.  If there are 9 boys ahead of Kabita, how many girls are after her in rank.
  • 12
  • 18

Let the number of girls be x.  Then, number of boys = 2x.

∴ x + 2x = 60 or 3x = 60 or x = 20
So, number of girls = 20 and number of boys = 40.
Number of students behind Kabita in rank = (60 - 17) = 43
Number of boys ahead of Kabita in rank = 9
Number of boys behind Kabita in rank = (40 - 9) =31
∴ Number of girls behind Kabita in rank = (43 -31) = 12.
